Evidence before allegiance
PHExpat is an independent public-affairs blog with an overseas Filipino perspective. These standards guide our factual coverage, explainers and commentary. We apply the same scrutiny to government, opposition, parties and other institutions.
Clear labels
- Current affairs: verified developments, attributed claims and relevant responses.
- Explainer: sourced context, with limitations and uncertainty made clear.
- Source documents: records accompanied by their origin, date and context. An official statement is evidence of what was said, not automatic proof of the underlying claim.
- Opinion and personal essays: named authors’ interpretation. Dear Ma and Overseas Filipino perspectives belong here.
Sources, fairness and accuracy
Link to primary records when available and credit original reporting. Check dates, quotations and context. Distinguish allegations from findings and avoid headlines that overstate the evidence. Seek relevant responses to substantive criticism, and say when a response has not been received. Never invent quotations, interviews, documents or events.
Corrections and updates
Email phexpatguide@gmail.com with “Correction” in the subject, the article link, the disputed passage and supporting evidence. Confirmed substantive errors will carry a dated correction explaining what changed. New developments may be labeled as updates. Minor spelling, grammar or formatting corrections may be made without a note. Retractions will explain the reason rather than silently removing the record.
Independence and disclosures
Disclose relevant personal, financial or organizational interests alongside the affected article. Label advertising, sponsorship and affiliate links clearly. Commercial arrangements must not determine factual findings. PHExpat does not present party campaigning, candidate advocacy or sponsored political messaging as independent factual coverage.
Images and assisted work
AI-generated or illustrative visuals will be identified when they could reasonably be mistaken for documentary photography or evidence. Human editorial review is required for AI-assisted material; tools are not sources and cannot replace verification.
Reader participation
Disagreement is welcome. Unsupported allegations, personal attacks, spam and private personal information may be removed or declined. Moderation should address conduct and evidence rather than political affiliation.
